West Virginia Delegate Dave Pethtel won a 13th term in the Legislature Tuesday, besting his Republican challenger by more than 1,500 votes. Unofficial results show Pethtel, D-Wetzel, with 3,895 votes to Phillip Wiley’s 2,319. Pethtel said he was pleased with the number of people that turned out and voted, noting that “it was a very large turnout.” “I’m pleased the people decided to re-elect me,” he said. Diserio Regains 2nd District Delegate Seat

With a heavy lead over his opponent, Phil Diserio will return to the House of Delegates representing the 2nd District. Diserio, a Democrat, was elected Tuesday night with 4,166, over 1,500 more than his opponent, Republican Robert “Chic” DiCiccio’s 2,658. The district covers much of Brooke County and a small part of Ohio County. Diserio was appointed in 2012 by Gov. Delegates Erikka Storch and Shawn Fluharty of Ohio County will return to the state Capitol in January after both were re-elected by voters on Tuesday. Final, unofficial election night tallies in the race for two seats representing the 3rd Delegate District showed Storch, a Republican, receiving 11,970 of the votes cast; and Fluharty, a Democrat, 8,915. Republican William Roger Romine won re-election to his 6th District House of Delegates seat in Tuesday’s general election. Romine garnered 4,755 votes — 74 percent of the total ballots cast — compared to Democrat Chris Combs’ 1,700 votes. Pending the outcome of Monday’s canvass, the results are unofficial. Republican Dr. Mike Maroney will replace outgoing West Virginia state Sen. Jeff Kessler in January, according to unoffical election night results. “I am very humbled and very excited by this. West Virginia’s 4th Delegate District took a Democratic turn Tuesday night as incumbent Mike Ferro and newcomer Joseph Canestraro took the two seats up for grabs. Ferro led the race with a final, unofficial tally of 7,604 votes, while Canestraro received 5,582. Delegate David Evans, R-Marshall, lost his seat as he ran third, with 4,465 votes.
