Ohio 95th District House Rep. Andy Thompson defeated Belmont County Commissioner Ginny Favede on Tuesday and hopes his final term in the House will be a fruitful one. Republican Frank Hoagland unseated incumbent Democrat Lou Gentile in the race for Ohio’s 30th District Senate seat. It was a hard-fought contest for both candidates. Gentile of Steubenville campaigned on his record as a public servant who fights for working families. The challenger Hoagland of Mingo Junction campaigned as a former Navy SEAL and small businessman who will fight for economic growth. Ohio, Marshall Counties Take ‘Brunch Bill’

Residents in Ohio and Marshall counties deserve a drink after this election. With approval of the so-called “brunch bill,” alcoholic beverages can now be sold starting at 10 a.m. on Sundays in both counties. Earlier this year, the West Virginia Legislature passed a bill allowing counties to permit, by referendum, earlier Sunday sales by businesses with Alcoholic Beverage Control Administration Class “A” licenses may conduct such sales. The Belmont County sheriff’s race was won by incumbent David Lucas by a large margin over challenger Dick Flanagan. Steubenville Schools Levy Gets Approval

Jefferson County voters considered levies seeking funding for schools, fire protection and operating expenses Tuesday. A total of 26 levies were submitted across the county for the general election ballot. Voters approved a 4.7-mill  Steubenville City School District levy to help with general permanent improvements for a continuing period of time, while the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School District is seeking the renewal of a 1-mill levy for current expenses for 10 years. Remke, Hunt Take Moundsville Council Seats

A hotly contested race for seats on Moundsville’s city council ended with incumbent David Haynes retaining his seat and Judy Hunt and former Councilman Phil Remke joining the fold. Hunt replaces Paul “Dude” Haynes, who is David Haynes’ brother, in the 1st Ward, while Remke will take Simms’ at-large seat.
