Library Deserves Full Funding

Editor, News-Register: Save the library! David Croft may not think the Ohio County Public Library is important enough for full funding but I do. The Ohio County Public Library is vital to many people as a resource. Book information does not change from day to day like Wikipedia and internet sources. I attended several of the library’s meetings — “Women Pilots,” for example — plus I had my taxes done in the basement until they became just too complex. Editor, News-Register: Recent actions of the Ohio County Board of Education that will result in a 33% reduction ($294,849) of annual revenue to the Ohio County Public Library should give all citizens of the county cause for alarm. Too frequently, funding of libraries is considered an add-on or frill by those who control access to revenue. Editor, News-Register: As a life-long fan of the Cleveland Indians Major League Baseball franchise, I do admit that I agree with the recent decision to change the team’s name from “Indians,” which has been the team’s moniker since the 1915 season, and therefore has been such for over a century since, but will be reportedly dropped following the 2021 season. Editor, News-Register: Bigotry is defined as “obstinate or unreasonable attachment to a belief, opinion, or faction; in particular, prejudice against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.” “Bigotry” seems to me, as I have encountered it in my travels, is hatred of people that are different in terms of race (color), religion, language, or sexual orientation. Glad to Know Late Ramsey Clark

Editor, News-Register: I was sued for $2 million by a Teamster Lawyer that was representing the Oneida County, NY Deputy Sheriff’s Union. (I had said “I don’t like the cops reporting to the robbers.”) They sued for two million, instead of one, because the county only carried one million in defamation insurance on the County Executive.
