Their Mothers Are Worried Sick

Editor, News-Register: This letter is in response to the letter from Harry C. Hamm Jr. in the April 11 Sunday News Register. Mr. Hamm asks “Where are the mothers?” referring to the mothers of the unaccompanied children. As a mother and grandmother myself, I suspect many of them are worried sick and crying for their children. Mr. Hamm wrote about his mother. There is no doubt in my mind that the mothers of these children love them as much as Mr. Hamm’s mother loved him and his 11 siblings because these mothers loved their children enough to let them go to save their ...

Presidents Should Just Be Honest

Editor, News-Register: As I look back on Trump’s wasted four years as president, the 20,000 lies that he spoke, none of them affected me as much as the untruths he spoke about Covid-19, that it would be gone by spring. The Chinese virus he called it, the fact that he refused to wear a mask, and held rallies where thousands of people were maskless. Yet followers were mesmerized by his speeches following him over the covid cliff, thousands of lives were cut short following Trump’s advice on Covid-19, one of those that died was my biological father who loved Trump, and supported ...

Island Lions Club Serving Youth

Editor, News-Register: Great things are happening and will continue to happen for the children and their families on Wheeling Island. On March 27th, many different individuals and organizations came together to bless them with an Easter Egg Hunt. Seeing kids smiling, laughing, and enjoying the beautiful day with their families and friends was the goal. It all started with the donation of Easter eggs and baskets from Walmart to the House of the Carpenter last spring. From there, the Wheeling Island Lions Club got involved, and then the Wheeling Island Community Association. Along came ...

Modernize W.Va. Gas Laws

Editor, News-Register: As the sixth-largest natural gas producing state, West Virginia is vital to America’s energy supply and security. In fact, about half of all homes in the U.S. are fueled by affordable, reliable natural gas. West Virginia is already an energy leader because of its diverse energy resources. And, with the third-largest natural gas reserves in the nation, West Virginia has the opportunity to become a natural gas-producing powerhouse. To realize its full potential as a global energy leader, however, the Mountain State must modernize its natural gas development ...

Just Where Are the Mothers?

Editor, News-Register: Daily we have witnessed the heart-wrenching accounts of unaccompanied children being herded by cartel members to our southern border. Their parents, convinced by the drug cartels that they would be taken care of on their journey and allowed to remain in the U.S., paid dearly in the hopes their children would find a better life in America. We now know that some were left behind when they could not keep up with the cartel caravans. We have seen images of girls, three and five years-old, dropped over the border wall to fend for themselves and recently a 10-year-old ...

Waiting on Justice to be Served

Editor, News-Register: This is such a hard letter to write but I cannot stand to wait any longer for justice to be done, as my husband Terry E. Long was killed on Dec. 1, 2019. My adult children and I are suffering and wondering why nothing has been done to try to get the person that ran over Terry and left him to die in a parking lot in Barnesville, Ohio. They have a good idea who it was but nothing has been done about it. Not a day goes by that someone does not ask us what is being done to find the person that ran over him. Folks around the Barnesville area loved Terry and we ...
