Former WVU CB Smith Joins Georgia

After announcing he was transferring out of West Virginia, former Mountaineers’ cornerback Tykee Smith has joined the Georgia Bulldogs. Smith was a third team All-American in 2020 and still has two years left of eligibility remaining. Last season for WVU, Smith accumulated 61 tackles, eight for a loss and two interceptions. He joins former WVU defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae in Georgia, who joined the Bulldogs in January.

WVU Pioneer Martha Thorn Dies

Martha Thorn, who coached tennis at West Virginia from 1973-2000 died on Sunday following months of declining health. She was 83 years old. Thorn began the women’s tennis program at WVU in 1973, just one year after the Title IX legislation was enacted. Thorn won 315 matches during her 27 years at West Virginia and was only the fourth coach in school history to capture 300 career victories in any sport back in 1999.
