Searching for Facts in His Letters

Editor, News-Register: It’s unbelievable to me how someone like Richard Hord from Martins Ferry can harbor so much hatred toward any one person that he keeps harping and writing and harping and writing about the same old mistruths. But since no one ever challenges him I guess he can keep believing and spreading his lies ... let’s see, where do I start? In his recent letter here he stated ‘it has been documented that while in office Trump has been responsible for no fewer than 30,573 false statements.’ I ask Mr. Hord to reveal where this has been documented? I ask Mr. Hord ...

Vote No on Amendments 2 and 4

Editor, News-Register: Are you confused about Amendments 2 and 4? Election day is fast approaching and many of my friends, colleagues, and constituents have shared with me their concerns about these two dangerous constitutional amendments. Who would you rather answer the phone when you call 9-1-1? A dispatcher or a legislator? When you go to the hospital, would you rather see a doctor or a politician? Would you rather teachers stand at the head of our classrooms, or bickering politicians? When it comes to things we care about most — our schools, our safety, and our communities ...

Not Supporting Amendment 2

Editor, News-Register: I vote no on Amendment 2 as I agree with (Marshall County Commissioner) John Gruzinskas. I don’t trust Charleston politicians and bureaucrats. They are awash in cash — $1.3 billion in surplus, $427 million in the first quarter — and refuse to give us tax breaks. They talk until the session runs out but we get no tax refunds or breaks, just hot air. So they expect us to give them control of more money and they “might” be nice and give us some back! Sure, just like the Ohio County Public Library will get some of its money back. It is amazing that ...

Fluharty Represents Constituents

Editor, News-Register: Ohio County residents are fortunate to be able to vote to send Delegate Shawn Fluharty back to the West Virginia Legislature in the upcoming general election. I know I am not from your county now. But I grew up in Wheeling and went to Triadelphia High School. And the views of someone who has been on the inside of the Legislature should be particularly valuable. Over the years I have lobbied the Legislature about consumer issues like used car warranties, about the rights of surface owners and small mineral owners when the oil and gas drillers came calling, ...

Voting Against All Amendments

Editor, News-Register: Get while the getting is good is what the Republican-controlled West Virginia Legislature is attempting to do by placing four Amendments on the November ballot. In my opinion, all will take away local control of our counties and cities, and place that control firmly in Charleston. I don’t think that is what most West Virginians want. I’m voting no on all Amendments. Richard Armstrong Triadelphia

Say Yes to W.Va. Amendment 2

Editor, News-Register: West Virginia has made great strides in the last several years by breaking free of decades-old policies that kept our economy moored in the past. We have another opportunity to chart a brighter future, and that is passage of Amendment 2. As a member of the West Virginia Legislature, I’m proud of our stewardship of the state budget. In spite of global economic pressures, we are seeing budget surpluses and encouraging business development. And that’s not by chance. We have carefully changed a variety of policies to make West Virginia a place where people can ...
