‘Just Say No’ Must Be W.Va.’s Answer to Recreational Pot

Editor, News-Register: Before any consideration is given to the legalization of “recreational” marijuana we need to fix the medical marijuana legislation. I encourage you to consider the current condition of our community, State and Country. We are just beginning to address the damage Opioids have caused. And to take any questions out of play, Opioids refer to all opiates which include semi synthetic and synthetic opioids, etc. typically made in laboratories. Examples of synthetic and semi synthetic opioids include: codeine, methadone, hydrocodine, Oxycontin, Vicodin and yes; ...

Better Lighting at Festival of Lights

Editor, News-Register: Hey, Oglebay Park! A little help, please. My husband and I tour the Festival of Lights every year, and every year we have the same concerns. Some type of reflective striping is needed on the roads. It is difficult to marvel at the displays especially when you can’t see the road. The two areas of concern are Spiedel and the very narrow roads in and out of the Good Zoo. We actually missed the turn into the Glass House. Help to make this pilgrimage easier on us all. Trump’s Return Not Good for Nation

Editor, News-Register: As the 78-year-old, 34-time convicted felon Donald J. Trump prepares to assume office, it sadly appears that he has even less respect for the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law than previously, based on his plans to drastically alter U.S. domestic and foreign policy. As well as his announced proposed cabinet and administrative staff appointments, and such is strongly indicative that his ego driven motivation for revenge on his political adversaries while rewarding members of the billionaire class of which he is a member, who very strongly support him as he has ...

Carey Right Pick for Next Ohio U.S. Senator

Editor, News-Register: As a person born in Cleveland but who grew up in Huntington, my career has taken me across the border to Ohio on many occasions for work and friendship, which has led to a broad network of colleagues contiguous to the Mountain State. That said, a longtime trusted friend has represented the Columbus area of the Buckeye State in the United States House of Representatives and is being considered by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to serve in the United States Senate in place of Vice President-Elect JD Vance. I have known Congressman Mike Carey for more than two decades and I ...

Can Anyone Show Proof of Voter ID Fraud in W.Va.?

Editor, News-Register: In recent years states have passed or attempted to pass voter identification requirements in order to be eligible to vote. West Virginia Republicans passed this law in 2018 with about 15 acceptable forms of I.D. The Democrats at the time, and in other states, vehemently complained that requiring voter identification would suppress votes for those that had no such identification. I’m curious, does anybody out there know of someone that knows somebody that knows someone else who is acquainted with anyone who attempted to vote or wanted to vote but was ...

Tariffs Would Harm Trade Between U.S. and Canada

Editor, News-Register: As an American who frequently visits Canada, I am very concerned by the incoming Trump administration’s proposed tariffs against Canada (“Trump Threatens Sweeping New Tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China on Day 1,” November 26). Canada is our largest trading partner with which we share the longest international frontier and have a long history of friendly relations. Tariffs are necessary to address trade imbalances with nations such as China which exports far more to the US than it imports from the US. This is just not the case with Canada which has ...
