WPHS Teacher Dismissed Following ‘Inappropriate Relationship’ With Student

WHEELING - A Wheeling Park High School teacher has been removed from the classroom following allegations of improper behavior with a student.

Officials with Ohio County Schools confirmed Friday an alleged incident was reported, and that the teacher was removed.

"Ohio County Schools immediately relieved the now former teacher from his duties due to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a minor student," Superintendent Kim Miller said in a released statement. "Ohio County Schools administrators acted swiftly and decisively when the allegations arose, and they have taken all appropriate steps as required by law and in the best interest of the student.

"Ohio County Schools is working with the appropriate parties to provide support and counseling to the affected student. Being there is an ongoing criminal investigation, we will not comment further at this time."

The teacher has not been identified.

The Ohio County Board of Education is next set to meet and consider personnel matters when it convenes at 6 p.m. Jan. 22 at the board office, 2203 National Road, Elm Grove.
