The Grammy-nominated sextet announced Monday that New Edition: Las Vegas will kick off Feb. 28. The group confirmed six residency shows at the Wynn Las Vegas’ Encore Theater, where acts like Diana Ross, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie and Brad Paisley have taken the stage. “We just caught lightning in a bottle,” said Ronnie DeVoe, a founding member of New Edition — which includes Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant and Ricky Bell. Take a Step Back: Is a Trump Renomination Really Inevitable?

Is it inevitable that Donald Trump will be the second person in history — Richard Nixon was the first — to win the Republican Party’s nomination for president three times? Many thoughtful observers, and others as well, think so. They have some solid evidence. Polling has been showing majorities of Republicans favoring Trump since Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicted him March 30 on charges that seemed both trivial and invalid. The day before that, Trump led Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., by just 44%-29% in the RealClearPolitics average. By April 6, Trump’s lead rose to ...

The Tiki Torch Brigade of the Left

It’s been a disquieting time for well-meaning liberals who have been suddenly confronted with the realization that their own side is rife with fanatics and haters. The explosion of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish feeling on campuses and the streets after Oct. 7 has shaken left-of-center people who didn’t know, or want to know, who their allies were. The long-standing presumption of progressives has been that their own side is identified with righteousness — with tolerance, reason and the finest of American traditions — while conservatives are hateful troglodytes who aren’t ...

Perry and the Cult of Celebrity

I never saw an episode of “Friends,” but that is probably because I am from the television era that began with black-and-white pictures and television screens so small you had to draw a chair up to the box to see a flickering image. Back then, celebrity was a byproduct of talent and accomplishment. I did have breakfast once with another “Friends” cast member, David Schwimmer, who was in town to promote a film. The female servers swarmed our table. One of the stars on “Friends,” Matthew Perry, 54, died in a hot tub in Los Angeles. No cause of death has been announced, ...

Box Office Results Muted Without ‘Dune: Part Two’

By LINDSEY BAHR AP Film Writer The North American box office had one of its slowest weekends of the year, due in large part to “Dune: Part Two’s” absence from the lineup. Moviegoers had many other options to choose from. The video game adaptation “Five Nights at Freddy’s” repeated its first-place ranking, followed by “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” still going strong. Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla “ expanded nationwide and “Oppenheimer” returned to IMAX screens. Several well-received indies opened as well. But this was the weekend that Warner Bros. and ...

DeNiro’s Ex-Assistant Says She Found His Behavior ‘Creepy’

NEW YORK (AP) — Robert De Niro’s former top executive assistant said she found it “creepy” when the actor insisted she scratch his back, an example of behavior she found controlling and abusive before she quit her job in 2019, she testified Friday at a New York civil trial. In a full day of testimony, Graham Chase Robinson became emotional several times as she claimed that the trauma she endured before she quit working for De Niro in 2019 after 11 years has left her jobless and depressed. “I was having an emotional and mental breakdown. I wasn’t eating. I wasn’t ...
