Prep Roundup: Wheeling Park Falters in Cleveland

GATES MILLS, OH - Wheeling Park's three-hour trek to Northeast Ohio to take on Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joe didn't go well for the Patriots.

The Patriots owned a 21-20 lead at halftime, but the Vikings scored 20 unanswered in the third quarter to take control.

Wheeling Park got a pair of touchdowns from junior speedster Jerrae Hawkins, who was on the receiving end of a pair of scoring passes from Brett Phillips. Will James caught another from Phillips, who also ran for a score.

VASJ received a four-touchdown performance from Brian Kortovich.

University 43, Brooke 14

MORGANTOWN -- Playing without starting quarterback Braelyn Sperringer, the Bruins lost at University.

Garrett Hornick threw for 153 yards with two touchdowns and an inception. Gus Gilbert caught three passes for 86 yards and two scores.

Beallsville 43, Hundred 34

HUNDRED - The Blue Devils squeaked past the host Hornets as Conner Hagan ran for 135 yards and scored touchdowns on runs of 10, 36 and 14.

Garrett Perkins also eclipsed the 100-yard mark with 101. He added TD runs of 15 and 53, while James Palmer ran a fumble back 20 yards.

PINE GROVE -- The Lumberjacks suffered their first setback of the season.

Sophomore quarterback Gavin Derby threw for 96 yards and gained 80 more on the ground. He both passed and ran for a score.

Patrick Higginbotham caught three passes for 78 yards and a touchdown.

North Marion 49, Oak Glen 0

FARMINGTON -- The Golden Bears were held off the scoreboard as they dropped a lopsided affair to North Marion.

Quinton Franklin, Juvencio Quintana and Gage Groetzinger all recorded sacks for OG.
