Bellaire Avenges Loss to St. C.

BELLAIRE -- Bellaire set a goal before the season that if it lost a game to make sure it did all it could do to avenge the setback the second time around.

They achieved the goal Thursday evening against St. Clairsville.

After dropping a four-set match earlier this month in the Belmont County Seat, the Big Reds exacted revenge with an impressive sweep of the Red Devils by scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-23.

"From our starters to all of our girls on the bench ... the girls were really into it," Bellaire head coach Erica Miller said. "This is a big win for us. We really wanted to come back and accomplish that goal we set about getting revenge on the next meeting."

The Big Reds wasted no time in establishing themselves jumping out to a big lead in the first set before the Red Devils made really their only true run in the opening two sets to claw back into the set by reeling off four straight points.

In the end, however, the Big Reds simply weren't going to be denied.

"Bellaire played well, but we played like (crap). We played terrible," first-year St. C. head coach Dave Williamson said. "We're a tale of two different teams. Some nights, we're a team that will compete with pretty much anyone in our league and then on other nights, this (result) happens."

The Big Reds showed no letup in the second set when it shot out to a 12-3 lead and went on to win convincingly in the second set.

St. Clairsville had some momentum in the third set, but it was short-lived. The Big Reds, who trailed by as many as six at a juncture in the third, reeled off six of seven points to knot the set at 17 before going on to win the match.

"We played well all-around," Miller said. "Looking at our stats, all of our hitters are pretty balanced. We had tons of digs. We just played a really good game."

The Big Reds were led on the stat sheet by Gianna Schmidt, who had a triple-double. She had 10 kills, 10 aces and 16 digs. Gracelynn Maupin posted five aces and 15 assists.

Seniors Brooklyn Zonker and Deena Call, who were recognized before the match, contributed a big night. Zonker had seven kills, three aces and seven digs. Call posted four kills.

Sophomore Zara Harveth recorded five kills, while Ava Marinacci had 15 assists and four digs. Lexi Morgan added nine digs, while Sidney Rowson contributed 11. Jadyn Thornton posted three kills.

St. Clairsville, which is in a battle to qualify for the OVAC 4A tournament, received four kills and two digs from Makenna Moran. Brooke Biancarelli added three kills, six digs and six aces. Emma Jackson posted three kills, three digs and three aces.

"We didn't pass well. Our defensive positioning was out of wack and we had people not getting back on their setting," Williamson said. "We couldn't pass, so you can't create offense if you don't pass the ball well. That doesn't allow us to establish our middles, which I feel if we could have established them, we don't lose."

Tyler def. Wood County

SISTERSVILLE -- Tyler (12-7) defeated visiting Wood Country Christian in four sets, 16-25, 25-8, 25-22 and 25-21.

Braeden Wall and Julianna Lattea led Tyler with 11 kills apiece. Wall also had six digs, two blocks and an ace while Lattea had five blocks.

Tanley McEldowney charted 31 digs with three aces and Caitlyn Northcraft recorded 11 digs, three blocks and 38 assists.

Buckeye Local sweeps Bridgeport

CONNORVILLE -- Buckeye Local needed three sets to finish off the invading Bridgeport by scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 31-29.

The Panthers were led by Sam Ankrom's nine digs and two aces. Abbey Berze had nine digs, while Pam Kandrach had nine kills and four digs. Brynn McKeever added six digs and 13 assists. Avah Williams had 11 assists, 14 points and six aces. Shayleigh Hornyak had nine kills and five digs.

Bridgeport was led by Ashlynn Allen's five kills and five points. Markiee McCormick had four points, seven assists and nine digs. Vanessa Mullen added 17 digs.

Harrison Central edges Martins Ferry

CADIZ -- The Huskies survived an epic, five-set match against the Purple Riders by scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 23-25 and 15-12.

Harrison Central was led on the stat sheet by Danica Rensi's 15 kills. Olivia Tonkovich added 35 assists. Maddy Butler posted 32 digs, while Maddie Sedgmer added 13 points. Nadia Tweedy had six blocks and Trista Thompson donated five.

Martins Ferry was led by Sydney Koller's 21 kills and two blocks. Lindsey Best had 31 digs, 11 kills, two aces. Hannah Meeker posted 40 assists, 14 digs and two aces. McKenzie Carte had 16 kills and four blocks. Suz Bruney posted 18 digs and Jordan Hughes had five digs and six kills.

Barnesville sweeps Beallsville

BEALLSVILLE -- The Shamrocks went on the road and picked up a sweep of the Blue Devils by scores of 25-18, 25-22, 25-21.

Ava McFarland led the Shamrocks with 33 assists, 15 digs and an ace. Halle Markovich posted four blocks and 20 kills. Kynlie Cline added 49 digs. Ellie Thompson recorded 14 kills and six digs. Jalyn Skinner was charted for 14 digs.

The Blue Devils were led by Kaylee Hagan's 16 digs and 13 kills. Kinley Hughes posted five kills, four digs and 16 assists.

Shenandoah stops Monroe Central

WOODSFIELD - The invading Zeps swept past the host Seminoles by scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-16.

Maclarin Craft led Monroe Central with 10 digs and five points, while Jacey English added six kills and five digs. Kynzi Bishop finished with four points and a trio of kills. Grace Swisher chipped in four kills and three blocks. Kyra English had nine assists and Olivia Valkovic eight. Olivia Bettinger totaled eight blocks.

Hundred sweeps St. John

BELLAIRE -- The Hornets posted a three-set win by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 26-24.

Gianna Metz led the Irish with 13 digs and two kills. Hannah Grady had 10 aces and six digs. Korynne Canter had 12 digs. Delaney Kemp posted nine digs.
