Forty-seven girls from fourteen schools from the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference will be represented in the fifth annual girls golf tournament at Fairways Riverside Golf Course in Sardis, Ohio on Wednesday, September 14. This will be by far, the largest girls golf event ever held in the Ohio Valley. The title sponsor for the event is the OV Athletics.com web site with generous funding from Undo's restaurants and DiCarlo's Pizza.
Players from Monroe Central, River, St. Clairsville, Edison, Shadyside, Martins Ferry, Wheeling Central, Morgantown, Parkersburg South, Oak Glen, Linsly, University will join two time defending champions from John Marshall for the competition.
The girls from Edison under coach Kodi Peterson will be the strong favorite in the team event following a strong regular season performance let by Nicole Zullo, Zoe Shell, and Katie Phillips. They will be joined in the team competition by Monroe Central, River, St. Clairsville, Ft. Frye, University and John Marshall.
A tremendously strong individual tournament will also be held led by talented Freshman, Olivia Baker of St. Clairsville. She will be joined by to players from Ohio in Kiera Saska from River, Faith Treadway from Ft. Frye, Taylor Fulton from Shadyside, and Julia Hancock from Martins Ferry along with Zullo, Shell and Phillips from Edison. The strongest contingent of West Virginia in the five year history of the event will include the following girls who placed in the top 15 in the state girls invitational led by Grace Yan and McKenna Darr of Morgantown, Olivia Foley of Parkersburg South, Maddie Potts of Wheeling Central, and Payten Clark of John Marshall.
The first tee times in the pro-start will be at 11 am on Wednesday
