TRIADELPHIA -- The Linsly boys soccer team continued its hot start to the season Thursday evening with a 10-0 win over John Marshall at the sun-soaked Highlands Sports Complex.
Within 11 minutes of the start of the game, Linsly (4-0) senior Diego Gonzalez had already scored a hat trick that put the Cadets up 3-0.
All three goals came on breakaways where the Cadets exhibited stellar passing and ball movement.
"We just share the ball really well," Linsly coach Greg Martin said. "Our movement off the ball gives us the ability to hold possession and retain possession. Any time you can do that, you have a high likelihood of success in this game."
The early success continued as Linsly built up a 7-0 lead after just 15 minutes of play.
In addition to Gonzalez, senior Cameron Neighoff scored twice in that span and senior Quinn McKenzie added one of his own. Junior Agustin Liu had the prettiest goal of the night when he headed in a corner kick up and over JM's goalkeeper.
"Because we're able to possess the ball and knock it around, we can dictate the flow of the game," Martin said. "Any time you're dictating things and maintaining possession, you're more likely to get goals and win matches."
After mass substitutions on both sides, the Cadets got two more goals in the second half from senior Anthony Flynn and senior Almatbek Zhezen. The 10th and final goal was scored as an own goal off a Monarch defender.
Seniors Nicholas Jambrino and Arturo Ruiz combined in net to preserve the Cadets' shutout.
John Marshall falls to 0-2 early in the season.
Linsly will look to keep its momentum going with a visit to University next Tuesday.
