WHEELING -- Best Virginia, West Virginia's alumni team will make a trip to Wheeling before playing in The Basketball Tournament. Best Virginia will play an exhibition game on July 9 at Wheeling Park High School with a tipoff time of 7 p.m.
Tickets are on sale now at bestvirginiatbt.com. and the opponent is still to be determined.
Wheeling Central alum Chase Harler joined Best Virginia in late May and helped make it possible to bring the excitement to Wheeling.
"Chase Harler reached out to our head basketball coach Michael Jebbia and he brought it to my attention," Wheeling Park athletic director Dwaine Rodgers said. "We're always trying to see if we can help our community so this place gets used for a lot of activities.
"Then, we had a meeting with Chase and worked out some details but the bottom line is we are going to host the team here."
Other players on the team include John Flowers, Kevin Jones, Tarik Phillip, Juwan Stanten, Nathan Adrian, Sagaba Konte, Teyvon Meyers, Jaysean Page and Jonathan Holton.
"We haven't done anything like this here before but Chase said he expects a decent crowd," Rodgers said.
TBT is split into five regions and the Charleston Coliseum will be the site of the West Virginia region. Games will be played from July 17-21.
TBT started in 2014, and it's a single elimination tournament where the winning team will collect $1 million this year.
Games will be broadcasted on ESPN.
