West Virginia Home Opener Off

By From STAFF REPORTS 1 min read

The West Virginia University men's basketball team's home opener is no more, less than 24 hours before it was scheduled to tip off.

WVU announced late Tuesday night that its 7 p.m. Wednesday game versus Robert Morris at the WVU Coliseum had been canceled due to COVID-19 protocols inside the RMU program. The No. 11 Mountaineers' next game -- and new home opener -- is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday against No. 19 Richmond.

Wednesday's cancellation is just the latest COVID-affected game for WVU (4-1). The Mountaineers' original home opener was scheduled for Dec. 2 against Youngstown State, but that game was postponed until further notice due to COVID issues in the Penguins' program. Also, West Virginia was scheduled to open the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic in South Dakota against Texas A&M, but the Aggies decided not to participate in the event.

Northern Iowa was supposed to replace Texas A&M as WVU's first foe in the Crossover Classic, but a shuffling of the brackets changed that game to South Dakota State.

Starting at /week.
