America’s Great Income Inequality Debate Rages

Editor, News-Register: “I can do something often accomplishes more than something must be done,” as the Trump administration announces that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will not be rolled out on Nov. 1, disrupting food access nationwide. On the other side of town, the major stock indexes closed at record highs. 401K plans soar in value as workers think out loud “what is wrong with this.” If you deposit $50 a week into a growth fund — which can be done by workers with a 5% contribution and 4% corporate match then sharing 1% or more with the 401K Plan ...

Column Misses the Mark About Peaceful Protests

Editor, News-Register: I feel compelled to respond to Cal Thomas’ uninformed article “No Kings? No One Really Has a Clue”. His review of the historic peaceful protests across our nation in response to an administration led by Donald J. Trump is egregiously misguided. He even claims that the event was largely choreographed and underwritten by donors such as George Soros as a money laundering scheme. Show us the proof, Mr. Thomas. And, speaking of money laundering, you failed to note the most recent Presidential Pardon is for Changpeng Zhao, the convicted founder of the ...

Vote To Support Funding for Your Local Library

Editor, News-Register: The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has a renewal levy on the Nov. 4 ballot. This has been an ongoing issue with this group, which wants all books with which it does not agree, removed. To put this in context, the library has approximately 65,000 items ...

Editor, News-Register: As per usual, the “great divider” of our great nation, President Donald Trump continues to demagogue increasingly that all political violence is generated by left-leaning progressive Democrats when in reality, has been proven to be absolutely not true, based on all irrefutable such evidence. This upon the unfortunate killing of Charlie Kirk, who was the founder of a conservative youth outreach group known as Turning Point U.S.A. Kirk had been a very strong Trump supporter and reportedly advised Trump personally on policy as well as on personal issues, ...

Our granddaughter played the viola with her sixth-grade classmates. We were amazed by the huge number of strings performers from sixth grade through high school. Such wonderful talent and commitment to learning the skills needed to play their instruments. We can all be proud of our school system and its wonderful teachers that foster this talent! Thank you to everyone involved in putting on this wonderful ...
