Marshall Memo: Activity Passes; Supporting Music; and Lifeguards

If you are a Marshall County resident and didn't obtain a Marshall County Free Activity Pass, you will be able to get one by going to the Board of Education Office in Moundsville on Monday, March 11 or Tuesday March 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to have your picture taken for the pass. The Activity Pass can be used to attend every Marshall County Schools sponsored event. The pass is good for admission to the event only, and does not cover additional fees. Those with questions should call the Board of Education Office at 304-843-4400.

Marshall County Schools Superintendent Shelby Haines has been named the West Virginia Music Educators Association Superintendent of the Year. Tracey Filben, John Marshall High School band director, nominated Haines for her support of arts. A ceremony was held Thursday.

Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy recently released his 2023 year-end report to City Council. The report includes capital expenditure highlights and activities from the previous year for all city departments and looks ahead to next year's budget and city progress.

Healy states that he "enjoys working on this report, since it really showcases the progress that is made every day in the city.

"When you put everything we do down on paper you realize how much effort is put forth by Council and City Employees." Copies of the report will be posted to the city's website cityofMoundsvile.com, and to the city's Facebook page. Copies are also available for viewing at the City Building and the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library.

The Marshall County Association of Retired School Employees will meet at noon Thursday, March 14, at the Ash Avenue Church of God in Moundsville. Joel Thacker from Humana will be the speaker. Easy-open snacks for children will be the service project.

The Moundsville Country Club has signed an agreement offered by the Regional Economic Development Partnership. The previous agreement would have expired in 2027. The new agreement now expires in 2053, and this will permit MCC the opportunity to continue serving the existing community. MCC has been a part of Marshall County since 1940.

Two special events will be taking place this month at the Strand Theatre in Moundsville. At 5 p.m. on March 18th the annual banquet will be held and on March 23, the Spring Children's Acting Classes will be taking place.

It's only the beginning of March, but summer is right around the corner. Grand Vue Park is looking for lifeguards for the upcoming pool season. Please call (304) 845-9810 if you or someone you know is interested in a position.

The annual Marshall County Chamber of Commerce Business and Health Expo will conclude Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Moundsville Center within the wall of the former WV Penitentiary.
