Several matters were outlined by Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy at Tuesday's meeting.
A dog park was opened recently in the southern section of Riverfront Park. There are two enclosed sides--one for small dogs and one for larger dogs.
A formal ribbon cutting will take place in the spring when a water hydrant will be installed.
The local Wreaths Across America Ceremony will be held Dec. 16, beginning at noon at Riverview Cemetery. This year more than 1,500 wreaths will be placed.
The guest speaker at the event will be West Virginia State Treasurer Riley Moore.
A Town Hall Meeting to discuss nuisance problems in the city will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at The Strand Theatre.
Invitations have been sent out.
The Annual City Employees Christmas Luncheon will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 15.
The event will be held at the Volunteer Fire Department.
There are still openings on the City's Building Commission and Historic Landmarks Committee. Anyone interest in serving should contact City Manager Healy.
Small Business Saturday, which was held on Nov. 25, was a success. The city offered thanks to Scott Reager and the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce for their promotion of the event.
Mayor Sara Wood-Shaw and City Manager Healy recently hosted Jennifer Brennan and Mike Giolis from the West Virginian Main Street Program.

Cameron High School seniors Ashlee Dobbs and Colton Winters have been named 2023 school winners for the Heisman High Scholarship awarded by the Heisman Trophy Trust.
Dobbs has been a representative of the CHS Student Council for the past four years and currently serves as president. She is also a member of the CHS Drug Free Club and the National Honor Society where she is the club's treasurer. She is a three-year academic letterman, a two-year member of the cross-country team and has participated in softball for three years. She has played for four years on the Lady Dragon Basketball team.
Winters is a three-year academic letterman and has played football for two seasons, baseball for three years, and basketball for four years. He is also a member of the CHS Drug Free Club, FFA, and a county Math Field Day participant.
The Heisman High School Scholarship was established in 1994 through a partnership between Wendy's and the Heisman Trophy Trust. From its inception, the program has leveraged the reputation of the Heisman Memorial Trophy as a symbol of great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. The HHSS program extends Heisman prestige to the nation's most esteemed high school seniors by celebrating and rewarding outstanding male and female scholar athletes who understand that the most important victories happen not only on the field by also in their schools and communities.

Third grade students at Glen Dale Elementary welcome the public to join them in a journey to Elf and the land of Santa's Elves where toys are made. The get-together will take place beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the John Marshall Center for the Performing Arts.
Following the musical, seasonal selections will be performed by the Glen Dale Elementary 4th and 5th grade chorus and 5th grade band. Donations will be accepted at the door.

Monday at 6.p.m., Santa will make a visit to the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library. To start off the event, Pastor Wesley Howsare will lead a sing-a-long. Santa will make a stop for the kids to visit and can have their picture taken on his lap. Afterwards, the library will have cookies and candy canes for the kids.

Authors Gary Rider and Roseanna Dakan Keller will present a program Tuesday at noon at the Ohio County Public Library. They will be speaking about their book, "Memories of the Benwood Mill." They have a slide show presentation and will explain how the mill was a part of the community for years. They will have books available for sale after the presentation.

The Marshall County Board of Health will be meeting at 7 a.m. on Dec. 13 at the Public Safety Building at 701 7th St. in Moundsville. All interested individuals or delegations wishing to address the BOH should contact Department Administrator, Tom Cook, at (304) 845-7840 to be placed on the agenda.

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice and First Lady Cathy Justice hosted the annual Joyful Night Celebration at the State Capitol On Dec. 5th. At the event, which included the lighting of the State's Christmas tree, winners of the First Lady's Ornament Competition were announced. In the 9th grade to 12th Grade Division, Ms. Elaina Depetro's Art 2 Class at John Marshall High School was announced as the winner.
The winner in each division will receive a $100 gift card for art supplies, and in January 2024, the winning ornaments will be donated to the West Virginia State Museum for a permanent collection.
