Getting No Help at W.Va. DMV

Editor, News-Register: I can’t begin the describe my frustration at the Moundsville DMV. I went in with my Colorado driver’s license and my car to change my residence with the DMV. I drove 10+ miles, returned home, went back to the DMV and had to return home, empty handed. I am 77 years old and a 56-year spouse of a Navy veteran. I presented in all: My Colorado driver’s license, my car insurance, my residential rental agreement, my husband’s death certificate, my husband’s will, which leaves me as sole owner of our estate, my birth certificate, my title for my car and my ...

Fix Safety Concern Near Park

Editor, News-Register: I can’t imagine I am the only one who feels the need for a guardrail along the lower portion of Sonneborn Road and beside the Wheeling Park swimming pool area. Most of the trees that offered any protection at all from wayward vehicles have been cut down due to age, or the storm that blew through last summer took down the rest — thus, leaving a big open space that should be looked at diligently. I’ve called the park, city and state a few times. Does anyone know who would look at this new need in any promising manner? Thank you to any momentum that we ...

Safety for Bus Riders Paramount

Editor, News-Register: I am writing as a rider on the buses. There is always a homeless man sleeping on the bench. He is constantly there. He leaves his blanket and pillow. No one can sit on this bench ... because he is living on it! Can someone look into this? Can he go to a shelter to sleep? These benches are here to sit while waiting on the bus. And OVRTA will do nothing about it! Sandra Davis Wheeling

Thomas Sullies Court’s Standing

Editor, News-Register: Does it not now, sadly, appear that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas may well be the most compromised, or perhaps corrupt, member of that August body that, until recently, had been perhaps the most highly respected institution in the history of our great nation? This is a result of Justice Thomas’ reported acceptance of the payment of his personal travel expenses and accommodations for over two decades from billionaire conservative mega-donor Harlan Crow, which went unreported by the Justice, that amounted to “millions of dollars.” In ...

Mooney Right Choice for Senate

Editor, News-Register: As a fourth-generation coal miner who has worked in the industry for many years, I am proud of the work that I and many others have done to mine the coal that builds and powers our country. However, the headlines that have come out about Jim Justice and his embarrassing treatment of his own workers are deeply concerning. The Justice family has operated coal mines in our state for decades and has boasted billion-dollar profits, but they leave their own workers behind. The ones who gave them their wealth. When I read that Justice failed to pay over six years ...

Reconsider Hunt at Oglebay

Editor, News-Register: Can you educate me how death by a bow and arrow is humane for exterminating the deer population at Oglebay Resort? How high is the probability deer death by bow and arrow is instant and humane? What is the frequency of watching the deer bleed out to finally die or take off running for their life, arrows sticking out of its body? What is the occurrence of delayed death while suffering with an arrow stuck in the deer? Is there a humane way to exterminate deer? Have any local veterinarians been consulted on this massacre? How safe is deer meat to eat ...
