A letter to Gov. Jim Justice:
We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude for your veto of HB 5105, and for standing firm for the children of West Virginia.
By vetoing this bill, and preserving a strong immunization policy for our state, you have helped insure nearly eradicated diseases like measles, mumps, rubella, and polio stay a problem of the past.
Upon learning of your decision to veto HB 5105, Loren Kaiser, MD, Pediatric Specialties at Wheeling Hospital, had the following to say, "We, as pediatricians of this state, will continue to advocate for strong immunization policies to protect the children of West Virginia. We appreciate having an ally in Governor Justice."
We would like to also thank you for standing up for our health care workers. As front-line defenders against dangerous diseases, removing our strong immunization policies put our workers at unnecessary risk.
They faithfully serve our communities day in and day out, and reverting to dangerous, outdated practices only hampers their ability to serve the current needs of West Virginians.
Vetoing this bill shows your solidarity with our employees, and your care and concern for the health of our state.
Thank you for all you do.
With great thanks,
Douglass E. Harrison
