Time for Politicians to Work for Us

On Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, you expressed concern about the current legislature in Charleston, West Virginia. The people there are so busy trying to impose their religous views on everyone instead of working to alleviate poverty in this state. I think there are over 300,000 residents that are living in poverty.

As a member of the Poor People's Campaign we are building a third Reconstruction by demanding that our people in government help to work to eliminate the fourth leading cause of death in the country.

Instead of spending money on posting a motto in the classrooms of our public schools and trying to teach what a religion believes about the beginning of this universe, they need to work to raise the minimun wage to $15, get rid of the right to work and permit workers to join unions, provide healthcare for all, work to provide affordable, adequate housing, working to end gun violence instead of allowing guns in more areas and asking teachers to carry, make sure we have clean air and water, make it easier to vote not harder, clean up the jails, allow teacher to teach our history, allow physicians to care for women and trans kids, repair our water pipes and roads, transition to renewable energy, provide lunch for all kids in school, work on cleaning up the jails instead of trying to fill them by sending people to jail for applying for a mail in ballot, or increasing the penalty for sale of drugs, put an end to systemic racism, white supremacy and an extreme political agenda.

The editorial asks the voters to make a decision in November to choose people who will work for them. That goes for the city councils, school boards, county commissioners, state senators and delegates, governor as well as federal representatives and senators.

People in Charleston and Washington, we are watching and asking you to do the right thing. People in Washington need to work for us and not the whims of one person. We need to send aid to Ukraine and to pass an Immigration bill that will hire more people to assist with the number of immigrants.
