Letters to the Editor

Wellness Weekend Was a Success

I've never written a letter to the editor before but after running the Ogden Half Marathon on Saturday, I wanted to publicly thank everyone who worked so hard to put on a first class event.

I've run many races over the past 50 years and this was one of the best organized and executed events that I've ever seen. Everything from the race shirts featuring the Suspension Bridge, the smooth packet pick up process, the efficiently run race with smiling faces at every water stop and friendly police directing traffic, and the great crowd at the finish line showed that this classic race has renewed swagger. And, we shouldn't leave out that the challenging course itself makes it stand out from most races with 29th Street hill, Chicken Neck and Wheeling Hill requiring all of your physical and mental stamina to complete.

I have to add that one of the highlights for me was getting a badly needed hamstring massage from the WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital physical therapy staff while overlooking the river on a beautiful day. I don't know any other race where you can do that.

I've heard nothing but praise from those in the racing community who participated. It was so good to see this once nationally recognized race coming back so strong after the Covid pandemic. The word is out and we'll soon see the Ogden Half Marathon and Wellness Weekend as a destination event for people across the nation. And the credit goes to all those who worked so hard last weekend.

A sincere "Thank You!" to you all.
