The importance of the natural gas and oil industry has never been more evident. The war in Ukraine, inflation, and skyrocketing energy prices have demonstrated how essential the industry is to our daily lives.
Nationwide, the industry is responsible for 5.6% of total U.S. employment and generates an enormous amount of economic benefits across the country. In Ohio, it provides 375,000 direct and 296,000 indirect jobs, supports over $24.7 billion in labor, and contributes $58.7 billion to our gross domestic product.
However, our industry's future is uncertain without the proper policies in place. Federal regulations continue to threaten our viability through ever expanding, non-scientifically based EPA regulations. Foreign government subsidized competition continues to tilt the playing field.
It is important for like-minded organizations to work together to ensure our industry's voices are heard and help educate lawmakers about the value of the natural gas and oil enterprise. Industry-friendly policies will aid the state and nation's economy through job creation and taxable revenue, ensuring that the natural gas and oil industry will continue to be a dynamic economic player in global commerce.
