AEP has requested yet another rate increase from the Public Service Commission (PSC), this time for another $18/month. (This follows an increase of 150% in rate hikes we have been paying over the past 15 years.)
One question for AEP is: Were all options considered before requesting the hike? For instance, along with coal, were other power and efficiency systems considered in the mix? If so, which combinations showed the best returns on investments? Were there options that did not necessitate this rate hike, and where can we access this comparative study?
People can make their voice heard at the PSC's public hearing in Wheeling at the courthouse on Wednesday, June 22, at 5:30pm.
The next evening, Thursday, June 23, at 6:30 pm at the Ohio County Library, there is an informational meeting to learn from experts about solutions to reducing energy costs.
So, even if the rates do keep going up, you can take control of your energy bills.
Local residents have been able to cost-effectively manage the energy costs of their offices and homes through solar and energy efficiency strategies, the experts will offer help to make it easy for others to do the same.
