McKinley Right Choice for W.Va.

Editor, News-Register:

Recently, (U.S. Rep. Alex) Mooney has called Congressman David McKinley a liar, although he has never stated what the Congressman has lied about. Think about that! If anyone has lied during this campaign, it is Mooney. He has called Congressman McKinley a RINO. Congressman McKinley has been a lifelong "West Virginia" Republican who has always espoused the traditional Republican platforms.

Mooney has called McKinley a liberal. Mooney and anyone who knows Congressman McKinley knows this is false. Under any other circumstance to call Congressman McKinley a liberal would be laughable.

Mooney attacks Congressman McKinley on the infrastructure bill that will bring $6 billion in funds to West Virginia for roads, bridges, broadband and other infrastructure projects. I cannot believe that any West Virginia citizen wouldn't be ecstatic that West Virginia will be receiving these funds that will create jobs and improve our quality of life. When he criticizes Congressman McKinley for his vote on the infrastructure bill, he must also be criticizing Sens. Capito and Manchin, who not only voted for the infrastructure bill, but were instrumental in the creation of this legislation, which they knew would be beneficial to the people of West Virginia.

All of the above false statements made by Mooney shouldn't be a surprise considering that he is now, for the second time, being investigated for ethics violations.

As an elected official for 28 years -- Weirton City Council for four years, Weirton mayor for eight years, both of which were bipartisan positions, and 16 years as a Democratic state senator from the 1st Senatorial District -- I have interacted with Congressman McKinley numerous times. There were many times when we had different political views. He was always respectful, forthright, and honest with me. I always recognized that his political positions were based on what he thought was best for West Virginia.

For the reasons mentioned in the paragraph above, and now that I am registered as an Independent voter, I will be voting for Congressman McKinley and encourage Republican and Independent voters to do the same.

Vote for David McKinley for Congressman of the Second Congressional District.

Edwin J. Bowman

Former Mayor of Weirton

Former W.Va. State Senator
