Yes, I’m a Liberal

Editor, News-Register:

Many people would describe me as "an old white man." How can that be? I may be 83 but I am a liberal. Old white men aren't supposed to be liberals.

But, I must be a liberal because:

I am a strong supporter of FDR's four freedoms of: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear.

I am for comprehensive, quality health and mental care for everyone living in America.

I am for reducing America military by at least half, especially America's colonial bases.

I am a supporter for outlawing all pistols and semi-automatic weapons.

I am for America leading in developing carbon-free, clean energy.

I support Black Lives Matter.

I am for rent/mortgage housing subsidies for housing costs exceeding 30% of family income.

I support free public college education for all.

I am for demilitarizing police and transferring most policing duties (except for violent crimes) to community-based policing.

I am for an overhaul of the criminal justice system to make it more fair and much less racist.

I am for the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act.

I am a never-watcher of FOX News.

I am for resoundingly -- humiliatingly -- defeating Donald Trump in this year's election.

I may be 83 but I feel and act 43.
