Pompeo’s Contribution To The Arts Admirable

2 min read

Cheryl Pompeo's contributions to the arts in the Ohio Valley received a well-earned permanent acknowledgment this past week, when one of the dance studios at the Oglebay Institute School of Dance at the Stifel Fine Arts Center was dedicated in her name.

For four decades, Pompeo has not only taught dance to children across the Ohio Valley, but has expanded the school to bring even more students to the school.

"Cheryl Pompeo is absolutely amazing," Oglebay Institute President Danielle McCracken said. "She brings her heart, her soul, her expertise to the School of Dance, and has done so for 40 years with Oglebay Institute."

Among her most important accomplishments is her dedication to inclusivity in dance. There is a stigma that dancers must fit a certain mold. Pompeo's mission has been to open the world of dance to anyone who wants to enter, shown though her work with organizations like Crittenton Services, Youth Services System, House of the Carpenter and her support of programs like Dancing Wheels. Her support of her students also goes well beyond their time at the school, and she generously offers her expertise as a choreographer to groups across the community.

Pompeo's dedication to promoting the art of dance has made the Ohio Valley a better place, and her influence will be felt for years to come.
