Several Local Basketball Players, Coaches Are Honored By Eastern District

CAMBRIDGE – The all-Eastern District boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were announced. The teams are selected by media members from the district based upon nominations from coaches. Seven coaches were honored as Coach of the Year or co-Coach of the year, while six players received Player of the Year, co-Player of the Year or tri-Player of the Year honors. WHEELING — Wheeling Park and Brooke each had dual causes for celebration on Tuesday as the OVAC 5A Swimming awards were released. Wheeling Park head coach Mike Cook was named Boys 5A Coach of the Year, and Brooke head coach Derek Wayne was named Girls 5A Coach of the Year. KINGWOOD — A go-ahead putback gave the homestanding Preston Knights a 59-57 victory over the Wheeling Park Patriots on Monday in a regular season make-up game, and with a postseason rematch on the horizon.
