RICHMOND -- The Edison girls' team returns five letterwinners with all having started multiple games last season.
But the Wildcats, according to second-year head coach Ryan Powell, "have suffered multiple injuries this preseason causing our numbers to be low and our depth to be thin.
"We need to get a couple of returning players healthy and cleared to play and avoid any future injuries to maintain some depth."
Edison will have five seniors in Skylar Fankhauser, Sarah Anderson, Madison Shannon, Parry Kryder and Jaclyn Horvath; three juniors in Kayla Huff, Sami Springer and Kierstin Simeral; four sophomores in Lauren Ferralli, Kenzi Potkrajac, Mary Patterson and Morgan Adkins; and two freshmen in Mikayla Petrisko and Skylar Grogg.
"With this being my second year at Edison the girls are more familiar with my coaching style and our system which is allowing practices to run more smoothly than last year," Powell said. "I feel defense will be the strength of our team again this season. We will play multiple defenses."
Powell added that the keys are making more shots and staying healthy, two things that didn't happen last year.
"If our defense remains consistent and we are able to make the open shots that we get within our offense, we will be able to compete with all of the teams on our schedule this season.," Powell said.
