WHEELING — The Debbie Green Memorial 5K Run and Walk for Leukemia has always had a focus on children and this year is no different. “Debbie’s Dash”— a 100-yard dash is for children ages 9 and younger. This event is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 at Heritage Port, with registration from 3-4:30 p.m. Saturday or on Friday evening from 4:30-6:30 p.m. There is a $3 entry fee, and shirts and pizza are guaranteed to the first 150 registered. The Green Mile will be run in honor of the United State military veterans, past and present, and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. “We can never thank them enough,” said race coordinate Ron Green. Three area children who have been battling childhood cancers will be the stars of this year’s Debbie Green Memorial 5K Run and Walk for Leukemia. The team format is wide open with teams consisting of any groups of people who want to compete on the same team. Males, females, children, walkers and runners of all ages can form a team and compete in this year’s event. The bigger the team the better!
