More Than 250K in West Virginia Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19

More than a quarter-million people in West Virginia are now fully vaccinated from COVID-19, according to the Department of Health and Human Resources website.

The DHHR site stated Thursday that 252,246 state residents have received the proper dosage of COVID vaccine to be completely protected. Also, 405,421 West Virginians have received their first dose of vaccine.

The state continues to move quickly in getting shots in arms soon after they're delivered. Health workers have given out 405,421 of 432,240 allocated first doses, or 93.8%. Of second doses, health workers have given out 252,246 of 305,490 or 82.6%. Of the 1.79 million residents of West Virginia, 14.1% have been fully vaccinated.

In Ohio County, 5,984 people are fully vaccinated. In Marshall County, 3,383 people are fully vaccinated.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department reported six new positive COVID-19 cases in its Thursday night update, bringing that county's totals to 3,910 cases and 75 related deaths since the pandemic began.

The Marshall County Health Department had not yet updated its website with its newest COVID-19 totals as of 10 p.m. Thursday.

Two Northern Panhandle counties were green, the COVID alert map's safest category, and two were yellow, the second-safest category, on Thursday's map. Hancock and Brooke counties were green and Ohio and Marshall counties were yellow.

Hancock County had an infection rate of 4.46 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 1.25 on Thursday's map. Brooke County had an infection rate of 3.26 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 0.79.

Ohio County had an infection rate of 16.90 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.06. Marshall County had an infection rate of 20.12 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.59.

In Ohio, the Belmont County Health Department reported 5,469 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Belmont County since the pandemic began, 66 hospitalizations and 104 related deaths.
