Ohio County, Marshall County students on remote learning this week due to COVID-19 rates

The West Virginia Department of Education school-based COVID-19 map — which is set to be released at 5 p.m. each Saturday but this past Saturday, didn’t come out until almost midnight — shows Ohio County and Marshall County in orange, meaning there is heightened community transmission of the coronavirus as case numbers continue to rise.
With both counties being orange, there will be no in-person school for public school students. It also means there can be no sports outside of conditioning for teams — and with the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission state high school football playoffs set to start this week, Wheeling Park (No. 7 AAA), John Marshall (No. 16 AAA) and Wheeling Central (No. 13, A) will have to wait to figure out if they are eligible to play at all this postseason.
Over the past week, Ohio County has seen more than 100 new COVID-19 cases, with 41 coming Saturday. Marshall County also continues to see one to two dozen new cases each day.
