Marshall County’s neighbor to the north now shares the same high-risk COVID-19 designation.
Ohio County joined Marshall on Monday in “red,” the highest-risk designation on the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources daily COVID-19 alert map. They are two of eight “red” counties on Monday’s map, joining Ritchie, Wirt, Mineral, Grant, Mason and Wyoming.
Ohio County showed an infection rate on Monday’s map of 84.86 positive cases per 100,000 residents with a percent positivity of 8.17. That’s a leap from 7.01 percent on the Sunday map. Marshall County had an infection rate Monday of 86.56 positive cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 9.77.
Hancock and Brooke counties both were “gold” — barely — on Monday’s map. Hancock had an infection rate of 84.30 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 4.99, while Brooke had an infection rate of 66.42 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 4.73. At 5 percent positivity, a county moves from “gold” to “orange.”
