Marshall County is no longer alone in the red when it comes to Northern Panhandle counties on West Virginia's COVID-19 alert map.

Brooke County also turned red Monday on the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources map, joining Marshall as the two Northern Panhandle counties experiencing "significant" risk of community spread.

Marshall and Ohio counties each reported two more COVID-related deaths Monday.

In Marshall County, a 74-year-old woman and a 35-year-old woman died, both of whom were hospitalized at the time of their deaths. Both deaths in Ohio County were people who lived in a Wheeling long-term care center and were hospitalized at the time of their deaths.

The Marshall County Health Department reported 21 new positive cases and two new probable cases. That brings Marshall County's totals to 951 confirmed cases, 134 probable cases, 10 hospitalizations and 16 associated deaths. The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department reported 35 new cases Monday, bringing that county's totals to 1,395 confirmed positive cases and 18 COVID-related deaths.

In Brooke County, the seven-day COVID-19 average shows an infection rate of 101.58 cases per 100,000 residents over the past week, and a percent positivity of 8.11 percent. Marshall County on Monday had 100.13 cases per 100,000 residents over the past week, and a percent positivity of 8.67.

Ohio County remained "orange" on Monday's alert map, with 93.14 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 6.61.

All students in the Northern Panhandle are on remote learning this week, and will remain remote until at least Dec. 3 after Gov. Jim Justice closed schools to in-person learning for a week after Thanksgiving.

Hancock County remained "orange," which could impact the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission football playoff game this weekend for Oak Glen High School. If the county remains in orange on this coming Saturday's COVID-19 school re-entry map, Oak Glen would be forced to forfeit its Class AA state semifinal game against Robert C. Byrd, set for Sunday.
