WHEELING -- A fifth person in Ohio County has died from COVID-19, county health officials announced Tuesday.
The person, whose name and age were not released, died after being hospitalized with the coronavirus, Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department Howard Gamble said.
The last person in the county to die from complications of COVID-19 was a 49-year-old woman on July 30.
Her death capped a month in which coronavirus cases spiked in the county with 161 in July.
Cases have eased somewhat this month, with just 38 positive tests reported so far in August.
There have been a total of 292 cases in Ohio County since the first one was reported March 24, with 268 recoveries as of Monday.
