WHEELING -- Graduation for seniors at The Linsly School still will happen July 25 despite a change in statewide restrictions pertaining to outdoor gatherings.

Seniors and their families were informed by email this week events at the school will go on as planned.

"As you may be aware, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice issued a new statewide mandate (Monday), limiting gatherings to no more than 25 people," said Justin Zimmerman, Linsly's head of school. "Despite these new restrictions, and after communicating with the Ohio County Department of Health, Linsly has been given the authority to move forward with our planned graduation as scheduled on Saturday, July 25, at 9 a.m. at Lockhart Stadium Fawcett Field."

He said the safety and well-being of students, faculty and families is the top priority, and Linsly will take every precaution to ensure they are safe at the graduation ceremony.

The event has been moved outside.

Seating will be arranged to provide for social distancing, and those attending will be required to wear masks.

Handshaking, hugging and all physical contact is banned during the event, according to the email.

The school plans to graduate 78 at its commencement ceremony. In the event of rain, the event will take place on July 26.

Many of Linsly's students are from outside the United States, and officials aren't certain how many will return to the campus for the graduation ceremony.
