Eighteen COVID-19 cases now linked to outbreak at First Baptist Church in Wheeling

First Baptist Church at 1470 National Road was identified Wednesday as an outbreak site after at least four members contracted COVID-19 earlier this month.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department Monday announced four new positive cases of COVID-19 in Ohio County. Currently, the health department reports 91 positive cases, including one death. Case surveillance, contact tracing and monitoring continues for many of the reported cases.

Of the 91 cases, 64 are reported by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources as recovered.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department continues to monitor an outbreak of COVID-19 at the First Baptist Church in Wheeling, WV. At this time, the health department is monitoring 18 positive cases of COVID-19 linked to the church. The church leadership is working with the health department to ensure all people exposed have been contacted and tested.

Ohio County and Ohio Valley residents are advised to limit public contact, implement social distancing, work at home where possible, wear a face covering when out in public or at work, wash your hands frequently and contact your personal physician if you become ill with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
