TRIADELPHIA -- High school archers from throughout the region will take their "shot in the park" today and tomorrow as Ohio County Archery hosts its annual tournament.

The annual "A Shot In The Park" event begins at 6:30 p.m. today at The Highlands Sports Complex. Events continue on Saturday, with doors opening at 9 a.m.

More than 850 archers representing 62 schools in the tri-state region have registered for the tournament.

There will be both bullseye and 3D competitions for the archers.

"A Shot In The Park" is open to the public. The cost for adults is $5, and children may attend for free.

"We have top-notch archers registered," said Rick Thomas, retired OCS teacher and current head archery coach. "Each year, coaches and schools look forward to competing in this large-scale tournament. Many coaches and archers say competing here feels like shooting at a state tournament."

The tournament features state and tri-state experts.

Last year, then-Wheeling Park High School senior Kimber Koehler won the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Championship Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

In addition, former Tournament Top Shot archer and current Muskingum University senior Kylee Brookover is the 2025-26 Collegiate 3D Nationals Champion. Brookover will be on site to share her experiences and discuss archery opportunities available after high school graduation.

The tournament will also feature elite archer Kaylee Zimmerman, traveling from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, who placed third at the NASP Championship.

The WPHS career and technical education programs will create the trophies awarded to the winners.
