Don’t Stop With Craft Breweries

Technology has revolutionized the way companies - including very small ones - do business. Meanwhile, many of them are forced to cope with government regulations, fees and taxes seemingly aimed at keeping entrepreneurs from going into business at all. Many would-be small business people take a look at the red tape and expense and decide dealing with it is not worth the effort. Some local residents were reminded last weekend that small businesses can be more than mere cogs in the gigantic machine that is the economy. They can be downright tasty, too.Wheeling was the site last weekend of the ...

Getting Wheeling Public Involved

Wheeling City Council members, representatives of the police department and other local officials make time regularly to attend public meetings such as those of Neighborhood Watch groups. But all too frequently, officials find themselves discussing important problems with just a few people.Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger expressed his frustration about that during a community meeting in Woodsdale this week. One member of the public showed up."What can we do to get people to come to these meetings?"?Schwertfeger wondered aloud. Tapping the Youth Vote in W.Va.

If you're a West Virginian 20-24 years old, you are nearly three times as likely to be unemployed as your neighbor in the 45-54 age group. But hey, no worries, it'll get better, right? Not much. In the 25-34 bracket, it was 10.4 percent. Meanwhile, ...

Counting Your Blessings

It was an amazing sight. Something we had never seen before. An immense white cloud formed in the eastern sky Wednesday as dusk settled over our home. We pulled our lawn chairs onto the driveway to drink in this beautiful phenomenon of nature. It wasn't the cloud itself, but what was going on inside its puffy interior. An amazing light show was playing out before us as streaks and bolts of lightning burst from the cloud. It was unusual because the constant lightning was not the garden variety cloud-to-ground type. Rather it streaked and jumped sideways in brilliant orange and red and ...

The entire national media and hundreds if not thousands of people have taken to the streets of Ferguson to protest or report on a potential injustice. At the same time, in Georgia, a young child, whose face was left hideously scarred from a SWAT team's flash ...
