WHEELING -- The Ohio Valley Plein Air Paint Out Exhibit will open today, Friday, Oct. 4, at Artworks Around Town.

A reception honoring the painters and their work from last month's event begins at 5:30 p.m.

More than 20 artists painted in the areas surrounding the valley including Oglebay, Sandscrest, The Waterfront, New Vrindaban and Moundsville.

The public is invited to come see the award winning works as well as the efforts of all who participated in the weeklong event. Scenes from the valley are depicted in various mediums. Pastel, oil, watercolor and acrylic paintings line the walls of the Studio and Student Galleries.

Winning Best of Show was Cecy Rose for her oil painting "Stable Buddies Cash and Boomer." Also presented with ribbons were, Gina Judy, Patricia Young, Eric Dye and Laura Bitely.

The works are for sale. This is a fantastic opportunity to buy a one-of-a-kind painting for a special holiday gift or to grace the walls of your home or office.

Eric Dye, who organized and guided the event invited students from Marshall County to participate at New Vrindaban. Many of them joined the artists and their works are on display in the Gallery.

Artworks sponsors ongoing workshops. Stop at the desk or go online to see details about what is offered. Greg Siegwart hosts a Monday morning painting class, Janet Sheehan teaches at the Gallery also and Sandy Hadsell holds an open workshop every Friday morning. Hadsell's open studio is an opportunity to bring your painting and work along side other artists, without instruction in a casual environment.

Artworks is a nonprofit fine art center serving the artists and citizens of the area.

The Gallery is open six days a week from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
