WHEELING -- Two exciting exhibits will be on the walls of Artworks Around Town for the month of February.

DaVonte Smith will continue to show his paintings in the Studio Gallery, and Linsly School's Art Department will be in the Student Gallery. A reception on Friday, Feb. 2, at Artworks in the Centre Market will open the exhibits. The event is free, open to the public and takes place from 5:30-8 p.m.

Linsly School's Fine arts chair, Joy Van Scyoc, is bringing an array of work from the Upper School's art classes, including Advanced Art, Studio Art, Photography and Ceramics.

"We are excited to showcase a sample of original student work," Van Scyoc said. "Each piece is a reflection of the creative compositions in both two- and three-dimensional designs. Both local and international student art is represented in this show. We are looking forward to sharing their talents with the community."

Smith's paintings and prints are on display for another month. The 17-year-old senior at Bridgeport High School has amazed visitors to the gallery with his mature interpretation of his subjects.

The Gallery is a place to view and purchase art in the form of paintings, photographs, fiber pieces, sculptures, jewelry, note cards and prints. Located in the north end of the older of the two Centre Market buildings, Artworks is a nonprofit art and education hub serving the community and is open six days a week from Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

The Gallery offers ongoing workshops as well as special sessions. On Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, member Audrey Moore will host a couples evening from 5-7 p.m. Consult the website for details at artworksaroundtown.com.
