Parkers Celebrate 50th

Rick and Cindy (McQuain) Parker of Weirton are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were united in marriage by Rev. Larry Brown on Sept. 18, 1971, at the old St. Paul’s Church that was on County Road. Cindy is the daughter of the late Jack and Grace McQuain. She worked at The Gap and was an aide for Hancock County Schools. Rick is the son of the late Stanley and Roselyn Parker. He was employed at Weirton Steel for 33 years, TSA Security at the Pittsburgh Airport for three years and in maintenance at Weirton Medical Center for seven years. The Parkers are parents of ...

Couple Marks 50 Years

Joe and Mary Thomas of Wheeling are celebrating 50 years of marriage. They were united in marriage on Sept. 18, 1971, at St. Joan of Arc Church with the Rev. Victor Seidel officiating the ceremony. Joe is the son of the late Tom (Butch) and Virginia (Vee) Thomas. Mary is the daughter of the late Chuck and Alberta Edwards. They are the parents of two sons, Jay (Cherie) of Charlottesville, Va., and Jeff of Columbus. They have triplet grandchildren: Ashton, Brianna and Cameron of Charlottesville, Va. They plan to celebrate with a family dinner.

Helms’ Celebrate 60th

Grant and Jay (Runco) Helms recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They exchanged vows on Sept. 2, 1961, by Fr. Connie Superfisky at St. Joseph’s in Tiltonsville. Grant was the proprietor of Grant’s Barber Shop for many years and Jay was instrumental in starting the school nurse program in what is now Buckeye Local where she worked for 30 years. Sechrests Celebrate 45 Years Bill and Sally Sechrest of Bethlehem will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary on Sept. 4. They were united in marriage on Sept. 4, 1976, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Mount Olivet, with the Revs. Carl Bauer and Peter Schlichting as celebrants. Sally Sechrest is the daughter of Don and Nancy Hinton of Bethlehem. She retired from The Kroger Co. after 44 years of service. Jerry and Sally Cassandra of Wellsburg, W.Va., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 18, at the Garabaldi Lodge Hall in Follansbee, W.Va., which was the very same place where they had their first date. They were married at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Follansbee, W.Va., with the late Fr. John Allison officiating.
