After nine long months waiting for disgraced Wheeling-Charleston Catholic Diocese Bishop Michael Bransfield to apologize and receive his punishment and pentance, Wheeling Hospital just announced, "we're broke."
The bishop orchestrated the deceit and fraud at the hospital, he gave exclusive raises and redirected parishioners' funds into his pockets, living a lavish lifestyle. He directed others to make his every wish come true at the expense of the hospital, the diocese and his middle class hard working faithful.
Now the fallout is coming and it isn't good for Wheeling Hospital and the entire valley. Soon another big hit will come when the feds hit the hospital with a $40 million fine. Cut services, layoffs, higher wait times and less capital expenditures await the struggling medical facility.
What do those of us that cannot believe one man could damage the faith so much expect? How about an apology since he was not indicted and put in jail for his actions? I see tough times ahead for Wheeling Hospital; it has to come back, because we have no other.
The people of this valley will forgive if given the chance. The bishop should man up, like in his "it is my hospital" comment, to confess, apologize and receive his punishment. Then and only then will the valley forgive, move forward without dwelling on the past and begin to recover.
If you are reading this, Mr. Bransfield, isn't it time?
