WHEELING -- The Wheeling Island Lions Club is again planning a Flags for Heroes display at Madison Elementary School over Memorial Day weekend. The fundraiser will honor heroes and may include military members, first responders, health care givers, teachers, community members or a sponsor's own special hero.

A donation of $50 will sponsor a 10-foot American flag pole set that the Lions will install on the lawn at Madison to create a stunning visual display. Each flag will have a personalized tag attached to the pole.

The tag will contain the name of the person being honored, as well as the sponsor. The display will also be installed for July 4 and Veterans Day. Those sponsoring the flags will be given the medallions after the display is taken down following Veterans Day.

Those who participated last year may make a 2020 donation for $30 for a new sponsorship tag.

Proceeds from Flags for Heroes will support Madison Elementary School and Lions charities.

Deadline for a flag set sponsorship is May 1.
