WHEELING -- Oglebay Institute is boasting the most wicked Halloween party in town as its annual Shadows Ball brings a night of thrills, chills, sideshows, burlesque, costumes and rock 'n' roll.
The Shadows Ball takes place from 7-11 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Stifel Fine Arts Center, 1330 National Road.
Back by popular demand, Pittsburgh's Kabarett Vulgare will entertain guests with a variety of sideshow acts including glass walking, brain flossing, human blockhead, burlesque, bed of nails, pain wands, contortion and more. A DJ will provide music throughout the evening, and the dance floor will be open.
A performing arts group based heavily on Weimer-era cabaret and the American sideshow tradition, Kabarett Vulgare takes the best of both worlds and delivers a night of performances not soon to be forgotten. Performers include sideshow marvel and "boylesque" drag queen Lilith
DeVille, glass dancer and
burlesque performer Macabre Noir, fakir bed of nails oracle Nick Noir and contortionist Zsa Zsa Moon.
In additional to entertainment, guests at the Shadows Ball will enjoy food, drink, film
screenings playing in the gallery and a judged costume competition with prizes.
Food for the evening is provided by Ye Olde Alpha, and the menu includes a repast of cleverly macabre-sounding
dishes including Brain Puree (roasted red pepper hummus with grilled pita), Bloodied Beets (oven roasted beets with caramelized onions, goat cheese and balsamic reduction), Texas Chainsaw Pulled Pork (pulled pork with Texas barbecue sauce and spicy slaw) and Severed Bat Wings (chicken wings with chipotle BBQ and hot pickles and Ranch dressing), among other ghoulish delights.
Costumes and ID are required for entry. Only patrons ages 18 and older will be admitted. Tickets can be purchased at www.oionline.com or by calling 304-242-7700.
All proceeds from the event directly support the Oglebay Institute Stifel Fine Arts Center.
