Tucks, turns, twists and triumphant tears. All will be on display Saturday during the annual Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Cheerleading Championships at WesBanco Arena.
Hundreds of hours of practice will be on display during the event, as 24 teams of young ladies perform their routines for the judges. All of last year's champions -- Bishop Donahue, Class 1A; Toronto, Class 2A; The Linsly School, Class 3A; St. Clairsville, Class 4A; and Wheeling Park, Class 5A, return to defend their crowns.
The event starts at 9 a.m., and also will feature special performances by several schools. At 9:05 a.m., Wheeling Park's junior varsity will start the day with a special performance. At 11:25 a.m., Wheeling Middle School will perform following the Class 5A competition, and at 12:40 p.m. Triadelphia Middle School will perform prior to the Class 1A start.
Finally, at 2:15 p.m., St. Clairsville Middle School will perform just prior to the event's end with the awarding of champions in the Class 1A and 5A divisions.
