STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville boys' basketball team is fresh off a Sweet 16 appearance and has a lot of experience back in uniform.

But a lot of that experience is on the football team and it will take some time for their basketball legs to be in shape.

"The players who are practicing and scrimmaging are working very hard and will have to carry the team in the early part of the season until the football players can get their basketball legs under them and gel together," Big Red coach Mike Haney said.

Steubenville has six seniors in Shyoun Petteway, Charles Reeves, Jack Marx, Alec Davis, Isaiah Lee-Granatir and Mitchell Gulan.

It lost four seniors to graduation in Dionee Wallace-Jones, Mandela Lawrence-Burke, Dimitri Collaros, and Joey Walkosky.

Rounding out the roster are juniors Davon Smith, Dajuan Jones, Javon Davis and Gino Pierro and sophomore James Roundtree.

"This can be one of the tallest teams that we have had in years," Haney said.

Reeves goes 6-foot-6, Lee-Granatir 6-5, Smith 6-4 and Roundtree 6-3.

New to the schedule are Boardman, Minerva, Akron Buchtel, Massillon Perry, Cambridge and St. Clairsville.

Reeves was a first team Eastern District Division II choice last year. He averaged 15.1 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.2 blocks. Petteway was an honorable mention selection.

Starting at /week.
