Charles W. and Helge B. Terrill of Wheeling celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on Saturday.
They were united in marriage under German law on June 11, 1965, in Nellingen, Germany, officiated by the city mayor, and by U.S. law on June 26, 1965, officiated by a U.S. Army chaplain.
Helge B. Terrill was born in Lampertheim, Germany, daughter of the late Ludwig and Katharine Rupp. She is retired from the U.S. Army, Air Force Exchange Services. She became an American citizen in 1977.
Charles W. Terrill was born in Dallas, W.Va., and is the son of Betty B. Boyd and the late Russell E. Terrill. He is a graduate of Columbia College, enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962 and served three tours in Vietnam. He retired in June 1990 as a command sergeant major with 28 1/2 years of service. After retirement, he worked as a claims processeor for West Virginia Division of Veterans Affairs until 2007.
