Advent Procession
The traditional Advent Procession of Lessons and Carols will be presented at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 1410 Chapline St., Wheeling, at 4 p.m. today, Nov. 29. Musical selections by the parish choir and carols will be interspersed with readings by members of the congregation. A wassail reception will be held in the parish hall after the service. The program is free and open to the public.
Ohio County CEOS
The Ohio County Community Educational Outreach Service will meet at the Valley Grove community building at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30. Nancy Kish, county president, will convene the meeting. The agenda will include final plans for a county Christmas party. Club reports are due to county chairmen and club membership dues are to be paid.
Club representatives who are unable to attend the meeting are to send alternate delegates.
Ladies League
The Ladies League of Marshall County will meet in the Kubic Room at the McMechen city building at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30. Hostesses will be Vicki Allender, Sheila Blackmore, Arica Holt, Christy Kirby, Elaine McCreary, Marian Moore, Ruth Mozingo, Bethani Vilkoski, Phyllis Wharton and Dana Zambito.
Members are to bring books to be given to kindergarten students at Center McMechen and All Saints Elementary schools. Attendees also are asked to donate dimes for a backpack ministry, Campbell’s soup labels, Box Tops for Education, unused coupons, used printer cartridges and aluminum pull tabs.
Reservations for a Dec. 14 Christmas party at Moundsville Country Club will be taken. Dues, raffle tickets and money will be collected.

Book Talk
Local author Susan Jones will present her book, “Bill Stewart: In His Own Words,” at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library, 700 Fifth St., from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30. The brief book talk will include an appearance by Karen Stewart, wife of the late coach. The event is free and open to the public.
Copies of the book and other works by Jones will be available for purchase and signing.
Lunch With Books
West Virginia author Anna Egan Smucker will be at Lunch With Books at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at noon Tuesday, Dec. 1, to discuss her new children’s book, “Brother Giovanni’s Little Reward, How the Pretzel Was Born.”
She will examine the process of creating a children’s picture book and will talk about her other books.
Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Attendees may bring a bag lunch; complimentary beverages are provided.
Alpha Pi Sigma
Gamma chapter of Alpha Pi Sigma sorority will meet at the Martins Ferry Public Library at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, with president Darlene Ruch presiding.
Christmas Sing-Along
An old-fashioned Christmas sing-along will take place at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library, 700 Fifth St., at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, and at the Benwood-McMechen Public Library, 201 Marshall St., McMechen, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8. Both events will feature music by Wesley Howsare and will last about an hour. Santa Claus will visit.
The programs for all ages are free and open to the public, with holiday treats included. The events are co-sponsored by the Robert Baker family with cookies provided by the Ladies League of Marshall County.
Lessons, Carols
The Schola Cantorum Franciscana and the Franciscan University Chorale will present an Advent Service of Nine Lessons and Carols in Christ the King Chapel at Franciscan University of Steubenville at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1.
The schola and chorale, directed by professors Nicholas Will and George Melhorn, respectively, will perform multiple musical pieces and lead the congregation in Advent and Christmas carols and hymns. The service is free and open to the public.
Christmas Concerts
Wheeling Jesuit University’s Chamber Singers, under the direction of Robert Troeger, will hold its free Christmas concert at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1225 National Road, Wheeling, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4.
The River City Brass Band of Pittsburgh along with the WJU symphonic band and new a cappella group will hold a free concert at Wheeling Jesuit’s Troy Theater at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. Dr. James Gourlay will lead the band.
The university will hold a blessing and lighting of a Christmas tree in the CET Circle immediately after the 8 p.m. Mass on Sunday, Dec. 6. Carols will be led by the WJU Chamber Singers.
Advent Evening
An Advent Evening by the Fire will be held at St. Joseph Retreat Center, 137 Mount St. Joseph Road, Wheeling, from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3. Light refreshments will be served.

Workshop
Sister Mary Clark, CSJ, will lead a workshop on baking Christmas cranberry bread in Mount St. Joseph’s lower-level meeting room, 137 Mount St. Joseph Road, Wheeling, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. The cost includes lunch.

Christmas Activity
Area children may stop by the Brooke County Public Library, 945 Main St., Wellsburg, between 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, and visit an activity table with Christmas crafts and coloring pages.
Lunch, Movie
The Brooke County Public Library, 945 Main St., Wellsburg, will show the film, “90 Minutes in Heaven,” rated PG-13, at noon Friday, Dec. 4. Guests may bring a lunch. Popcorn and water will be provided by the library. To reserve a seat, call the circulation desk, 304-737-1551.
Fish Fry
A fish fry event will be held at St. Jude parish hall, Glen Dale, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4. For take-out orders, call 304-845-2646. Local delivery will be available if ordered by 10 a.m. for lunch and 3 p.m. for dinner.
Breakfast With Santa
Warren Township Lions Club will hold a breakfast with Santa Saturday, Dec. 5, at Tiltonsville United Methodist Church, 106 Grandview Ave. All area children may attend.
Museum Event
A double event will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Ohio Valley River Museum, 112 Ferry St., Clarington. Santa and an elf will be at the museum from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., along with photographer Beverly Dierkes. The Rev. Randall Gehres, former pastor of the Zion and Immanuel United Church of Christ congregations, will be at the museum to offer his book, “Meanderings with Grace,” for sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
After this event, the museum will be closed through March for updating and rearranging exhibits.
Garden Club
The Mount Pleasant Garden Club will meet at the Farm Restaurant at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, for a Christmas party. A gift exchange will be held.
Lunch With Books
California University of Pennsylvania students of Christina Fisanick will be at a special edition of Lunch With Books at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at noon Saturday, Dec. 5, to debut their digital video stories focusing on local history. The event is in partnership with the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh.

Craft Fair, Parade
The Barnesville Area Chamber of Commerce is presenting a Christmas craft fair in the Barnesville Elementary School gym, 210 W. Church St., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. Barnesville’s Christmas parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. After the parade, Santa will visit with children at the elementary school gym.
Concert
A free concert featuring the Ron Retzer Trio will be held at Stone Presbyterian Church, 25 E. Cove Ave., Wheeling, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. A cookie and coffee reception will begin at 1:30 p.m. A love offering will be collected to support the trio’s music ministry.
Christmas Concert
The Opus Music Club of Moundsville will present a Christmas concert at First Christian Church, Third Street and Grant Avenue, Moundsville, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. Admission is free.
Musical Program
The Bethany College choir, under the direction of William Ton, will perform at the Brooke County Museum, 704 Charles St., Wellsburg, at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. Refreshments will be available after the program.
Christmas Dinner-Party
The Women’s Society of Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 2216 Eoff St., Wheeling, is holding a Christmas dinner and party in Cedar Hall from 5:30-9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. Doors will be opened at 5 p.m. Reservations and payment are due today, Nov. 29.
Craft-Vendor Show
A Christmas craft and vendor show will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s social hall in Claysville from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. A chance auction and lunch will be available.
