Elizabeth ("Liz") Mitchell Day died in Birmingham, AL on Monday, October 20 at the age of 89.
Liz was married for 62 years to her husband, Paul Phillip (Phil) Day who preceded her in death.
Liz is survived by her loving family: her son, Jeffrey Paul Day (Mona) of Mason, OH; her daughter, Ann Day Hunt (David) of Birmingham, AL; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Liz was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan on January 7, 1936, the only child of her parents, Hubbard and Elizabeth Mitchell. She attended the College of William & Mary for her undergraduate degree where she became a lifelong member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She later earned a master's degree in education administration in West Virginia. Liz was a lifelong educator and absolutely adored her students while teaching, and her teachers while serving as an administrator. A high point was her time at Wheeling Country Day School where she was a teacher and then head of school. Liz was extremely honored to be admitted to the Wheeling Country Day School Hall of Fame in 2024.
Liz will be remembered for her warmth; her generous spirit; her many friendships; and her outstanding leadership as an educator; but most of all, for the love she showered on her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Wheeling Country Day School (Wheeling, WV).
